"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in your richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing on another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
~Colossians 3:15-16~
As I start my day and look toward the week that God has set before me, I am thankful that He cares about me and has given me a 'prescription for living.' When the storms of life surround me, I want the peace of God to rule in my heart. I want to be thankful, and for the Word of Christ to dwell in me richly permeating my soul with songs in my heart as I sing to Him.
Do you have storms in your life? We have Hurricane Sandy approaching by mid-afternoon today, and although we do not live along the coast, it is expected to bring super high winds and a ton of rain. We are expected to have trees down and power outages. Are you prepared for the storms that life brings?
"And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him."
~Colossians 3:17~
I am going to post this verse on my fridge and in my laundry room so that I will remember to keep the right perspective as I go through my day preparing for the 'real' approaching storm. You may have a 'real' relational storm, or financial one. Or your laundry may be out-of-control. Do all in the name of the Lord, give thanks as you fold the clothes, pray for the person who will wear the clothes, and use these verses to seek the Lord through whatever difficulty you are facing this week.
As I meditate on these three verses as I go through my day, I will purpose to:
- Let the peace of God rule in my heart.
- Be thankful.
- Stay in God's Word so that it will dwell in me richly.
- Sing (at least in my heart, if not out loud) to the Lord.
- Experience the grace that will come to my heart as I do all these things.
Will you do these five things with me this week?
If your perspective needs to change this week regarding how you view a certain task, I challenge you to purpose this week to do it with joy and gratitude, as unto the Lord. Post these verses around your home to remind you to live intentionally with purpose and joy that internalizing these verses will bring.
I am thankful for:
- I am thankful for Hurricane Sandy and that the Lord can protect us and those who are in a more direct path.
- I am thankful that the Lord can teach about the 'storms of life' through extreme weather patterns.
*We are not unacquainted with the loss of power as we joke that the power goes out when the wind blows. We have a generator, a wood stove for our heating, and flashlights and candles. Now, to get that pile of weekend laundry done, house cleaned a bit, and a little more food ;-) if there is any left on the shelves (people panic, you know) and all will be set. No worries, God is in control and we live 1300 feet above sea level and up from the two rivers three miles down our little mountain.
I'd LOVE you to leave a comment!!
Since I live out 'in-the-sticks'... friends, like you are a long ways away!!

Thank you so so much Brandy for nominating me for the Liebster Blog Award!! I hope you are also blessed immensely as you share with others.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you are safely away from all the flooding and glad you have a generator, stove, etc. Still, it's never fun being in the storm, but as you said, God is in control!
ReplyDeleteHow did you get that fb like badge on your blog? I clicked on the "facebook social plug in" but gave me two boxes of html, and wasn't sure where to place both of the boxes. Appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Judith! You don't know how spot on this post is for me today... There is an approaching storm in our lives (hubby and mine) and it is due to hit next Friday (9th November). Please pray for us. It is a horrible situation and one which has gone on for a very long time (five and a half years). One day I will share (through email). Right now is not the time.
ReplyDeletePray the Lord will be glorified in and through our situation.
Thank you Judith... and for the reminder to pray, praise, and stay in the Word.
P.S. to date, I am thankful for what the Lord has taught me through this lingering storm. Whilst the situation is horrible with a capital 'H', the spiritual lessons have been amazing.
ReplyDeleteWendy, I am praying for you. I actually really think of you through the day as you have become very special to me :-) I had a 'huge storm' in my life that I cannot talk about, so in a way, I understand. If you ever would like to email me so I can pray, you are more than welcome.
ReplyDeleteHi Judith,
ReplyDeleteahh yes peace. How I long for it, and struggle holding on to it. That devil just does not ever sleep...and fear grips me...pushing peace out. This is my cross, and one I struggle with every day. Thank you for this post on peace, and proposing it a way of life. Challenging me in ways unspeakable.
I have missed you. I slightly dropped off the blogging world and have ached to get back in. I knew I'd find a warm cup of virtual tea here alongside some food for my soul.
Thank you for your diligence and consistency. You are a treasure! And thanks for stopping by 'my place'. It was so wonderful to have been checked in on by you.
God bless you dear Judith.
Love, Patty (fanta4two)
