Someone asked about this hymn recently and it got me meditating on it. I found it speaking to my heart as all hymns by Fanny Crosby will do. A week ago, our pastor spoke about the Lord giving us a song to bring us through those 'times' in our life. I think that this is the song that the Lord is giving to me for this week. I hope that it speaks to your heart as it did mine. Does the Lord also give you songs of deliverance? Hymns are so filled with spiritual truths. I love the old hymns . . . I am sure that you have noticed!!
Some day the silver cord will break,
And I no more as now shall sing,
But, O, the joy when I awake
Within the palace of the King.
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story saved by grace.
Some day my earthly house will fall,
I cannot tell how soon 'twill be,
But this I know, my All in All
Has now a place in heaven for me.
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story saved by grace.
Some day, when fades the golden sun,
Beneath the rosy-tinted West,
My blessed Lord will say, "Well done!"
And I shall enter into rest.
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story saved by grace.
Some day -- till then I'll watch and wait,
My lamp all trimmed and burning bright,
That when my Saviour opes the gate,
My soul to Him may take its flight.
And I shall see Him face to face,
And tell the story saved by grace.

Yes, certain hymns go with certain times in life. "Will Your Anchor Hold?" stands out as one which met me when I needed it. Not that I hadn't known it before, but it became mine in a special sense.
ReplyDeleteI love the thought of songs of deliverance. I'm so thankful the Lord chose to use psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to help the Word of Christ dwell in us richly.
