Remember Lot's wife!!
Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it;
and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it!!
~Luke 17:32,33~
Jesus is coming again!!
Are we going about our life as if we will be changing diapers, washing dishes, doing laundry, raising our children, forever? Are we finding ourselves caught in the season of life as if we will be there forever? I know I have done that!!
When the day seems endless and we are constantly battling exhaustion, it sure does feel like our children will never be toilet trained or learn their multiplication tables, and the laundry pile never will get smaller!! It is easy to go from meal to meal, washing an enormous pile of dishes without ever seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
The people in Noah's day didn't heed his warnings of the coming flood and continued to eat, drink, and get married without living their lives for God. In the days of Lot, they also did the same thing, eating and drinking without a care in the world. Noah and Lot were godly men and their families were saved. But Lot's wife looked back!!
We can have joy in the season we find ourselves in today. Changing diapers, washing that pile of dishes, and making a dent in the ever-increasing mound of laundry. Enjoying our children can be the very thing we lose our life over. Lets lose ourselves today in our children, our calling for Jesus's sake and we will preserve our life. Look to Jesus. Talk to Jesus, He cares about us. We will 'find our life' in serving others.
Look at the big picture. Jesus is coming again!! Just as Noah was saved from the flood and an ungodly world, just as Lot was saved from wicked Sodom, we will be saved from the ungodliness of this world when Jesus returns!!
Be a testimony first to your family. We don't know how long we will be able to have an influence over their lives. We cannot count on tomorrow. We can only count on today.
Make today count for the Lord!!

You are so right... we don't know what a day holds!
ReplyDeleteJust before I read your post this evening, I was reading a quote by Jim Elliot:
"He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose."
You know, I think he may just have based that quote on Luke 17:32-33:
"Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it."
I really like that quote from Jim Elliot. I heard Elizabeth Elliot speak a couple times and what an example she has been.
ReplyDeleteI never thought I would miss those days, but I do. Having six kids who now dress themselves and most do their own laundry is a physical relief, but all I can wonder is if I really was a good Mom during those frantic, overwhelmed days. Be strong, sisters! Make precious memories, give out lotsa hugs and show your joy when you're serving a needy family. There are no "Do-Overs" in motherhood...
