Enjoy the Childhood Joys of Winter

Would you rather it was spring?? Have you ever noticed that in the summer we complain over the sweltering heat and wish for cooler weather and winter; while in the winter we look forward to the warmth of summer??

The picnics and hikes along mosquito infested swamps looking for frogs and crayfish will come but for now; are you enjoying the childhood joys of winter??

When my children were young, I used to LOVE to get out there in the snow with them and glide down the hill on a sled. I was 8 months pregnant one year and all dressed up in a purple snowsuit shoveling snow and playing with my children with three feet of snow in the yard. Some of my children were small enough that I needed to watch out for them so they wouldn't get lost under the snow.

My children loved the snow (unless we were cleaning the rabbit barn and chicken coop, LOL) and they would tirelessly play until their socks were a soggy wetness inside their boots and we would have to change socks, gloves, hats, and boots if there were extras that year for something dry. They didn't like coming inside!!

Do you get outside with your children?? Do you enjoy it?? Or do you send them out and check out your favorite blog or write pithy posts??

Pictures stay in your memory (and I hear memories improve with the aging process, LOL) so you can write later what you don't have time for today!!

If you busy yourself with something other than your children in these happy golden years (Ooops, is that from "Little House?") you might someday look back with regret.

Or, you might look a little dorky like I did last week when it snowed!!

I was outside trying to make a snowman!! I would have except that the snow was too fluffy and wouldn't pack. We needed a snowman and my children are grown. It is funny how they aren't interested in playing outside in the wonderful whiteness that God provides in winter, but in a few years when they have children they are most likely to be back outside again.

How about you??

Are you enjoying the childhood joys of winter??

Not only have I been enjoying the childhood joys of winter; I have been enjoying eating Dove chocolates and reading the 'saying' inside the wrappers. They make GREAT post titles, LOL!! Where else did you think I was inspired to write this post?!

Sooo, I'd love you to follow me on:

  1. Beautiful pictures and message Judith! I am one of those people who could live year around in summer like conditions, but nevertheless, enjoy the beauty of the winter snow (we have sure had plenty of it this year!) At least the days are getting longer-yea! Seasons of change are always beautiful regardless of what favorite time of year we choose; we should appreciate all of God's seasons! :)

    Blessings and love,
    Denise

    1. We didn't get quite as much snow as a couple years ago. That one picture was taken the year we got 3 feet in two days!! Thanks for stopping by, Denise.

  2. I am learning to appreciate the beauty of all seasons more as I get older. I still am reluctant to get out as much as I (we) should when it's cold. :/ Love the inspiration for the post. :)

  4. Ooh, I love, love, love summer (even the heat!!) but I do get out and have fun and enjoy winter with my kids too. I just don't prefer it. I'm pretty sure our neighbors think we're a little nuts (the reason we need to move to the country ASAP) at some of our year-round outdoor antics (like playing baseball in the snow). Thanks for the encouragement to enjoy the season we are in and to get off my blog and play! :)

    1. I would think you lived in the country since it seems to me there is LOTS of countryside up north. BTW...I loved your 'guest poster' today!! ;-)

    1. Believe it or NOT, I took all those pictures (not Naomi ;-) on my AUTOMATIC Canon!! All know how to do (so far) is turn it on, zoom in, zoom out, and click. Aren't cameras amazing?

  6. I'm actually glad that I didn't even know what the internet or blogger were when my kiddos were young. I'm not sure I'd always have made the right choice. Life was much simpler then and fewer things called us away from making these memories with our children. I love thinking of you 8 months pregnant in a purple snow suit : )
This is a fun and thoughtful post, Judith. Thanks.

    1. I just lost my reply. My keyboard is crazy with the cursor skipping all over the place. Somewhere there is a picture...I should dig it out.

  7. Judith ~ I love how all your posts stress keeping first things first - God, family then ... I love the picture of the Dove chocolates. We must be kindred spirits ;) I did a post today which included Dove, milk chocolates (What are you hiding?) I'm so glad God gave us chocolate! Thanks for sharing your words of wisdom and for hosting another link-up. God bless and have a wonderful week.

  8. My children, husband, and I love snow and enjoy sledding (when we have enough snow here). This winter, it's
cold but there's no snow. I'm thankful for all seasons and I appreciate all that God made for us to enjoy each season. Nice pictures!

  9. My childhood winter fun when it snows is making snow cream. Used to make it for my daughters; now I make it for myself ... and love every spoonful of it!
