O Jesus, I Have Promised

"Lo, we have left all, and followed Thee"
~Luke 18:28~

We sang this hymn in church on Sunday and it spoke deeply to my heart.

Hymns are wonderful because they have so many biblical truths woven within the words that most repetitive choruses sung in churches just don't have.

I grew up during a time when rock music was raging and my interest in 'boring' hymns just lacked the depth they offered.

You might be like me, except that you just might be totally unfamiliar with hymns at all!!

Just take a moment to soak in the sweet words of this hymn.

O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou for ever near me,
My Master and my Friend:
I shall no fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my guide.

O let me feel Thee near me,
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and with-in;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee,
That where Thou art in glory,
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow,
My master and my Friend.

If you are burdened with a situation with your children, husband, grandchildren, or a friend, your health, just continue to serve the Lord in what He has called you to do until the end.

Serve your family today with the grace Jesus has given you. He is your Master and your Friend.

Jesus will face the battles and your foes of those ugly attitudes you face (your own and your children) and will be by your side if you just let Him.

Last week, I got thrown way off kilter with my blog (you didn't notice?!)
All it takes is a day or two to get behind!!
I am also working extremely hard on my blog (though it looks neglected, LOL)
So, keep coming back to see what surprises
are happening in my neck of the woods!!

I'd LOVE you to leave a comment!!

Since I live out 'in-the-sticks'... friends, like you are a long ways away!!
Sooo, I'd love you to follow me on:

  1. When we were newlyweds, my husband asked the older man who discipled him how he could pray for him. He answered, "Pray that I wouldn't go astray." We laughed. He said he was serious. Now that we're middle aged, we understand. Life is so hard, harder than we imagined. But, we continually try turning TO the Lord through our trials and not AWAY. We've seen many friends and spiritual leaders fall away through the years. Now we pray that we would not go astray.

    1. I tried finding a 'You Tube" of the hymn and didn't find one that I liked. There are two tunes. Here it is anyway...though the recording could use some help (but NOT from me, LOL):

  4. Beautiful words. I don't know the hymn either even though we're old, old, olllld hymn singers in our meeting. I agree, much is lost in the new music many churches are using. I wish others could see the joy and wisdom in these too. Thank you for sharing this.

    1. We sang it for the first time in church last Sunday and most people didn't know it either. I barely did but can't forget it!!

If you have gone a little way ahead, O friend, call back --
Twill cheer my heart and help my feet along the stony track.
