Does Your Rose Have Thorns??

Roses Are Red,
Violets are blue,
Sugar is sweet,
And so are you.

 A rose has a thorn,
A violet has none,
A heart is torn,
Sends one to the Lord!!

A rose had no thorn,
That isn't the norm,
No thorns in your life,
No pain, no gain!!
Last two verses~ A stab at poetry~Judith

Roses are the flower of choice when a man expresses love to his sweetheart. They are admired for their beauty and evoke emotions of love in the heart of the woman who receives one or a dozen. The thorns are there to protect the rose against predators that might harm the beautiful, soft flower. But why did my roses have no thorns?

The thorns in my life make me depend more on the Lord.

God's Given Thorns

Strange gift indeed!--a thorn to prick--
To pierce into the very quick,
To cause perpetual sense of pain.
Strange gift! And yet, 'twas given for gain.
Unwelcome, but it came to stay;
Nor could it e'en be prayed away.
It came to fill its God-planned place---
A life-enriching means of grace
O much-tried saint with fainting heart
The thorn with its abiding smart,
With all its wearing, ceaseless pain
Can be thy means of priceless gain.
And so whate'er thy thorn may be,
From God accept it willingly.
But reckon Christ, --His life --His power
To keep, in thy most trying hour.
And sure -- thy life will richer grow;
His grace sufficient will bestow.
And in Heav'n's morn thy joy 'twill be
That by His thorn, He strengthened thee.

My life has thorns, does yours?? In some ways, I would prefer that life didn't have its 'thorns,' yet, without the pain that the thorns cause, there would be no growth. The thorns strengthen the beauty and fragrance of the rose because it is not weakened by predators. The thorns of my life cause me pain, yet keep the devil away. The strength of the rose is like the strength I find in the Lord who strengthens me with all might, according to His glorious power. Patience, longsuffering with joyfulness when trials and temptations bring thorns of pain to protect me from my predator, Satan. I am thankful for my trials (my problems) and the beauty God is turning my life into just when I feel utterly unable to carry on with some issue of life.

I have seen God's faithfulness this week as He eases the pain of the thorns. How about you??

"That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing,
being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:"

  2. Judith...my life has had its share of thorns and though they are usually difficult to endure, they definitely find me leaning ever so much on the Lord. Its during the thorns of life that we see Him as the Father he is in our lives and we realize our need for Him daily. I pray you have a great week and thank you for linking up at WJIM.

  3. Yes, so true. I didn't know there were thornless roses until my husband gave me some beautiful thornless roses for Mother's Day last weekend...and it got me thinking. It is the victory that comes out of those times in life with thorns that make my walk with the Lord so precious. Thanks for commenting.

  4. Beautiful! Yes, it's those thorns that bring growth in us and push us closer to our Lord. How many times have we wished that things might be easier, and yet, what a blessing to see God's faithfulness during those difficult times. And He's ALWAYS faithful!!!

Thanks for linking up to Making Your Home Sing Monday!
